Lesson Policies & Procedures
Practice & Preparation
What to Bring
For voice, I recommend bringing water, hot tea or coffee (no cream or milk!), and something to take notes with. If we're working with sheet music, lyric sheets, or a method book, please bring them along with a pencil.
(I also recommend recording our lessons! You can use voice memos or video, and if our lessons are virtual there's an option to record within Google Meet and Zoom. This way you can listen back to our session to practice during the week.)
Lesson Logs
For each student, I create a lesson log on Google Docs and share it with you via email. I use these to write down exercises, tips, notes taken during practice, repertoire ideas, etc. I encourage you to write in it along with me! You can add any questions, notes from your own practice, anything you'd like!
Practice
Amount of self-guided practice varies based on each student's goals, but you are much more likely to see progress if you make practice a regular habit. In lessons I provide a wide range of exercises you can work on, along with any repertoire we're studying. Ideally, each student can do 15 minutes of dedicated practice at least twice a week outside of lessons. Find a space where you're comfortable singing/playing, stay hydrated, and consider recording your session!
Attendace & Cancellations
Timeliness
I will be prompt for the start time of our lessons and I expect my students to do the same. If you're delayed for any reason, send me an email or text as soon as you can. I understand things happen, and usually I'm willing to extend our lesson time a few minutes so you still get a sizeable session.
Late or No-Show
I will wait half the duration of our scheduled lesson if you haven't already notified me you'll be late. In that time, I'll reach out once via email or text to confirm that you're aware of our lesson. After the halfway point, I will consider it a no-show and you will be responsible for the full lesson payment.
Cancelling
I ask that you provide me at least 48 hours if you need to cancel or reschedule a lesson. When cancelling with more than 24 hours' notice, there will be a spot holding fee of half the lesson price. If you provide less than 24 hours notice, I will consider it a same-day cancel and you will be responsible for the full lesson payment.
** After 2 lessons, I will consider you an official student on my roster and policies will apply, including cancellation & place holding fees.
Payment
I accept payment for lessons via Venmo, Zelle, PayPal, on the day of our lesson. If I haven't received payment within 48 hours, I will send you a reminder via email and/or the payment platform. If you are behind on more than 2 lesson payments, I may cancel further lessons until payment is up to date.
